Ancient Jewish Yad Torah Reading Pointer and its Chain Judaica 19th Century

  

Silver Jewish yad adorned with delicate motifs of wavy bands made up of triangles or lines, hand-engraved. At the end that touches the Torah, there is an ovoid element, and at the other end, a holding hole with a chain. The hallmark is illegible, but the origin is Tunisian. Patina, small dent on the body, in very good overall condition.

The yad is a ritual object consisting of a shaft with an ornamental piece at the far end. It is used in ceremonial services to follow the written text of the Torah without touching the scroll with the finger.
