Old engraved silver frame and abalone shell marquetry, circa 1900

  

Old circular frame made around 1900, in tested solid silver, decorated with abalone marquetry showing iridescent green, blue, pink, and violet reflections. The mount is finely engraved with scrollwork, while the abalone plaques, all different, create a remarkable play of natural colors.

The back is made of pewter. The whole piece reflects fine artisanal workmanship from the late 19th or early 20th century. The silver is not hallmarked but has been tested as solid silver. A very beautiful decorative piece that can hold a mirror or a photograph, or simply be displayed as a collector’s item.
