Very beautiful Louis XV rococo decoration on both sides, with raised shell and bouquet motifs. Inside, the inscription “Aient ANGM” can be read, probably a typographical alteration of “Patent angemeldet” (patent pending, in German), which suggests Germanic or Austro-Hungarian manufacture.
The metal is non-magnetic, which leaves open the possibility that it is unhallmarked silver or a precious alloy. The case has a few visible dents, evidence of its age and use. The closing spring works, but the lid does not close completely; it was probably forced open to remove the gold coins.
The interior is empty, but I am including a brass token and a spring with the shipment, as well as a small shiny piece under spring, to enrich the decoration.
Dimensions: 6 × 3 × 1 cm.
This coin purse is accompanied by an old unhallmarked chain, 87 cm long (43.5 × 2), with double-eight links, sometimes called “interlaced link” or “knotted link,” which gives it a lot of charm. The non-ferrous, non-magnetic metal shows no signs of silver loss.
Its careful construction, with discreet soldering and interlocking links, reflects an old and precise manufacture. The absence of a hallmark does not confirm silver, but the quality and patina leave that possibility open. Designed without a clasp, it slips directly over the head, in a raw yet elegant style.
A unique and evocative set. A duo that is both historical and expressive, sure to appeal to lovers of transformed jewelry, original pieces, and antique items full of character to wear.
