Ancient Roman Silver Hair or Clothing Pin, Solid Silver, 1st-4th Century AD

  
Ancient and authentic hairpin or clothing pin from the Roman era in solid silver, 1st-4th century AD. It consists of a rather thin stem that ends at one end in a needle shape, while the other end is adorned with a hand holding a small ball between the thumb and index finger. Below the hand, the stem is decorated.

The stem is slightly twisted. Period: 1st - 4th century AD. Total height: 12.5 cm. Stem section: 0.7 cm.

Hand dimensions: 2 cm high - 0.7 cm wide. Condition: Very good condition, cleaned by a professional. Provenance: Cyprus - private collection. The island of Cyprus was part of the Roman Empire from 58 BCE. The Christianization of the Eastern Roman Empire transformed it into the Byzantine Empire, to which the island continued to belong until 649 and from 965 to 1192.
